he is based off of a pet that i had on actual neopets.com named Fliate. that was his name originally, but then i kept calling him "filly" for short, so that became his name. except with one less L, because "Filly" was taken.

Néphos is the neopet version of my baldur's gate 3 player character! their main deal is that they're an asshole who kills people with lightning (due to the fact that they're a storm sorcerer. or. whatever the neopet equivalent of that could be). they also have some curse of some sort (that's what the weird dark tendrils coming out of their left eye are supposed to be) but that's not really relevant here. neopet néphos is simply here to have a good time and they are never going to die.

i really like néphos. for this reason i have spent a lot of virtual and real life currency commissioning people to draw them, which you can see below.

yes this is literally just astarion bg3 as a neopet. he's a halloween cybunny because... of this tumblr post, mainly, but also because those are little vampires, and also because "ancunin" sounds an awful lot like "an coinín", which is irish for "the rabbit"*. i don't know about anyone else but *i* think it's a perfect fit!!

some fun facts about him: he has a white rat as a petpet, because i thought it'd be mean to give him a rat as a petpet and then did it anyway; he runs my user shop on gc, which is called "ancunin's accoutrements" because i clearly have some sort of alliteration problem; and he's won at least 2 beauty contests. everyone loves him

including me. i like him a lot! i've drawn him a handful of times and commissioned a few people to draw him too. less than néphos, but still...

* i am aware that "ancunin" is "canonically" pronounced with a soft c sound. i do not care and i refuse to say it like that. you are going to have to pry this bunny from my cold dead hands.

ever since i was a child i've always really liked faerie xweetoks, i thought their poses were so cute. unfortunately i never managed to get one before the conversion happened, and of course the converted version was largely just uninteresting and unappealing with their lifeless sitting-there-with-a-fist-up pose. that's one of the nice things about gc, i guess, that i can finally attain some of the pets i really wanted when i was a kid.

i guess technically this pet is named after Kanade Tachibana, the character from angel beats. the loose connection here being that i really liked angel beats when i was a kid. i think this pet would make child-me happy.

Envoi is named after the band Envoi, which was briefly my favourite around the time that i made this pet. their EP "changes" and their song "the seas" really scratched a particular itch in my brain that really wanted to listen to oldschool paramore without having to listen to all those same old songs again.

basically the moment i joined the site and learned of the existence of the "edgy" colour i knew i was going to *need* an edgy zafara, and this name seemed the perfect fit for that. in my mind, Envoi is a sibling to Enver... for no other reason than they're both edgy pets i got around the same time, and their names sound kind of similar.

Transcendentium is named after the duology of songs, Transcendentium, Part I - Zoroastrian and Transcendentium, Part II - Fourth Temple, but probably more specifically part 1, if i had to be honest about it. part 2 does immediately kick off with the lyrics "WHEN YOU BECOME ME YOU'LL FINALLY SEE" though, and i do really love that.

i have some confusion about the title of these songs, actually. originally, on the original youtube uploads and on the album itself, it was called "TranscendentIUM", but on streaming services now it's titled "TranscendentMIUM". where did that m come from? i named this pet after the "original" spelling because i think that looks better.

Neurogenesis is named after the song of the same name by Intervals. i don't have much to say about the song but i do have something to say about this pet in particular. here's the thing: i don't like kacheeks. i think they look really dumb with their weirdly proportioned bodies and their tiny faces with crooked mouths. they're trying too hard to be cute and failing badly. in my opinion. i was, however, striving to have one of each species of pet so i was bound to get a kacheek at some point. i really don't like them, though!! or any of their colours, really. i was split between the options of getting an invisible kacheek or going with a mutant one, which i thought was acceptable compared to all other visible colours. and then i came across this song, and i thought that it matched nicely with mutant's big gross exposed brain, so.

okay so this one has a story attached to it. basically, once upon a time in original neopets, there was a glitch that allowed users to make pets with "forbidden characters" in their names, including spaces. this was patched out but the pets with glitched names remained, and one of them was a desert kougra named Goostoff Pierre. years pass, and somehow Goostoff ends up being thrown in the pound, where he becomes notable because of his strange name with a space in it, and because nobody could actually adopt him. turns out the system couldn't parse his name and so he was doomed to forever rot in the pound. eventually users alerted the neopets team of this, and they ended up just deleting him from the site.

i've always been fond of goostoff ever since i learnt about him. therefore, when i learned that grundos.cafe natively supported the existence of pets with characters that are considered "forbidden" on original neopets, one of the first ideas i had was to recreate him so he could actually continue to live on in some form. goostoff pierre will never die!!
